Background

A distinctive blend of two remarkable varieties - Saperavi from mature vineyards and Malbec from young vines. This successful experiment brings together the freshness and softness of Malbec with the depth and intensity of Saperavi. The result is a wine that perfectly reflects the Estate’s philosophy: a harmonious union of Georgian tradition and European elegance.

Terroir

Saperavi grapes planted in 2014 and young Malbec planted in 2022 are cultivated in distinct plots across Tsinandali’s south-east-facing vineyards, nestled 600-700 meters above sea level. Surrounded by oak forest, these slopes feature well-drained clay-limestone soils that perfectly express the character of each variety within the Tsinandali PDO.

Viticulture

Our philosophy begins in the vineyard, where we believe exceptional wine is born in harmony between vine and terroir. Every detail matters - from the earthworms enriching the soil to the thoughtful care behind each vineyard practice. Through cover cropping and sustainable methods such as pest mating disruption, we nurture a balanced ecosystem where nature and the vine thrive together.

2024 Growing Season

The 2024 growing season in Tsinandali was one of contrasts - gentle spring rains, intense summer heat, and sudden autumn showers. The warmth of July and August hastened ripening, prompting an early harvest, while careful vineyard work preserved the fruit’s health and balance. Between bursts of rain, we found the perfect moments to pick, capturing grapes full of richness, vitality, and poise.

Vinification

Saperavi and Malbec were vinified separately in stainless steel tanks to preserve their unique varietal expressions. Saperavi fermented with its skins at 24°C, developing deep colour and refined tannins, while Malbec from young vines was fermented with a mix of crushed and whole berries. To enhance concentration and texture, 15% of the Malbec juice was drawn off by saignée. Through patient tasting and blending trials, the perfect harmony between the two wines was found - a balance that reflects both their distinct characters and the unmistakable identity of the Estate.

Tasting Note and Pairing

Two spirits in perfect harmony - the power of Saperavi intertwined with the elegance of Malbec. Aromas of black cherry and plum unfold alongside subtle notes of spice and graphite. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, where Saperavi’s firm structure meets Malbec’s supple fruit and roundness. The finish lingers gracefully, a seamless duet of depth and refinement. The wine pairs beautifully with lightly prepared meats, fresh salads, and traditional Georgian cuisine.
